Miguel Ortega, who grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, discovered his love for making people laugh at a very young age. This passion led him to pursue a career in entertainment. Although he had some performance experience in high school, it was at Drexel University that he truly began to actively pursue theater, earning a Drexel Theatre Scholarship and becoming a member of their Theatre Company. He is currently pursuing a BS in Playwriting with a minor in Theatre. During his time in the arts, he has participated in numerous main stage productions at Drexel, held intern positions at People’s Light and Philadelphia Theatre Company, and become a represented actor through Reinhard Talent Agency. He has also studied under many theater professionals in Philadelphia. Through these experiences, he has developed a strong passion for representation in all kinds of theatre and hopes to use this passion and his future projects to elevate Philly talent.
Miguel Ortega’s project, “Henchmen: The Musical,” is an absurdist musical comedy written and produced by him, with music by Drexel alumni and rising composer, Josh Goldhaber. He aims to put up an elevated production using local talent. He not only wishes to use this production to dive head-first into the theater-making community in Philadelphia, but also to showcase Drexel’s diverse talent. He hopes to give back to the people who made his theater journey so wonderful by providing them with another opportunity to shine. He hopes that Henchmen’s message of identity and self-love will resonate with Drexel’s community and inspire others to better understand themselves.
This project is slated for early June. Location, date, and time are TBA.
